What To Know About Artificial Grass Distributor Delivery And Shipping Information

artificial grass distributor

So you’ve done your homework and found the best artificial grass distributor for your project, and now you’re in the weeds trying to understand how the stuff gets from the warehouse to your install site. There’s a lot to understand. Where do they ship? How long does it take? How much will it cost me? And what else don’t I know that will end making me want to pull my hair out?

These are all great questions. Important questions. And all those shipping details have a huge impact on your overall turf experience.

The thing about buying from an artificial grass distributor is that the delivery process is nothing like ordering a pair of shoes online. Suddenly, you need to know talking about freight trucks, scheduling windows, and everything it’s going to take to get your turf rolls from the back of the truck into the actual installation space. (Because sometimes the delivery people literally can’t get the truck to that spot.) But don’t worry… these are all the important details we’re walking through today. Everything you need to know so there are zero surprises between hitting “Buy” and that big truck pulling up to your spot.

Artificial Grass Delivery Highlights

All the deep details are coming up, but here are some high-level insights you absolutely need to know up-front:

    • Most artificial grass distributors offer nationwide shipping, with delivery times typically ranging from 3 to 10 business days depending on your location
    • Free shipping is available on many orders—over 90% of distributors waive shipping fees for orders exceeding $250, though residential addresses may have different requirements
    • You’ll need help unloading; curbside delivery is standard, meaning the freight company drops your turf at the curb and you handle the rest (these rolls are heavy!)
    • Tracking is standard… more than 80% of distributors provide tracking information so you’re not left guessing when your order arrives
    • Damage happens rarely, about 60% of shipments arrive without any issues, but knowing how to document problems is important in case you’re in the unlucky minority

The Real Shipping Deal: From Manufacturer to Your Driveway

Figuring out all the steps and details of artificial grass delivery is daunting. But any artificial grass distributor who’s created a successful business in this industry has done most of the work for you already. So, you’re tapping into a pretty sophisticated logistics network. For instance, here at Artificial Turf Supply, we’re a manufacturer-direct, wholesale supplier with connections all across the country, providing better prices and more product options than you’d find at a local retailer. These products and prices only remain great because we’ve spent the time and energy making sure our shipping and delivery processes are as streamlined and efficient as possible… otherwise we’d be out of business.

So, whether you’re in San Jose, CA or somewhere in TX, we’ve got you covered. Thousands of orders successfully pull up to our customers’ properties every month. Here’s how that happens…

Can You Get Turf Delivered to [Literally Anywhere]?

Artificial grass distributors regularly offer nationwide shipping options. These days, that’s a just requirement if you’re going to be an online distributor. Our Artificial Turf Supply team services all 48 contiguous states. And if you live in Hawaii and Alaska? Those require special freight arrangements with additional costs, but we’d still love to be your turf partner.

Commercial Addresses: These deliveries are the easiest. Why? There’s usually a loading dock, someone to sign for the package during business hours, and easy access for big, turf-carrying trucks.

Residential Addresses: These deliveries make up most of our shipping orders. You can expect the freight company to call you 24-48 hours before your delivery to schedule a time window. And please understand that they can’t be responsible for backing that 53-foot truck down your narrow driveway. There are too many ways that could cause damage that no one wants to deal with.

A few months ago, I talked to a Phoenix, AZ customer who lives in a cute neighborhood off Camelback Road… with some super narrow streets and more than a few speed bumps. The driver couldn’t have gotten to their property without basically shutting down the entire street. So, we coordinated the driver to meet him at the community center parking lot instead. The whole thing went smooth as silk.

Remote or Rural Area Deliveries: Can an artificial grass distributor get turf to your ranch in the middle of nowhere? Probably. Will it take a bit longer? Also probably. Rural deliveries can push that delivery timeframe toward the 10-business-day mark rather than the 3-5 day window you’d see in urban areas.

If you’re even slightly concerned about whether a freight truck can reach your property, call before you order. A good distributor will work with you to find a solution.

The Journey: How Your Grass Gets to You

Unlike that Amazon package that shows up in a cardboard box, synthetic turf requires freight shipping. These are the same kind of trucks that deliver to Home Depot and Lowe’s. And here’s what that looks like.

Standard Freight Delivery: Your turf products get loaded onto a commercial freight carrier. It’s usually a 53-foot trailer, and it travel from one shipment hub to the next, getting closer to you with each stop. If you’ve ever tracked the details a package being shipped, you’ve seen this in action. Once it’s at your place, the carrier uses a lift gate to get your rolls off the truck and onto the ground. From there, it’s up to you. These rolls are designed to be moved. Yes, they’re heavy. But with two or three people, you can absolutely roll them into position.

Expedited Shipping: But what if you need your turf faster? Expedited service is almost always available for an additional fee. This basically bumps your order up in priority, shaving a few days off the usual delivery time.

Packaging: Each piece of turf is custom-cut to your specifications, then rolled onto a cardboard core and wrapped in protective plastic to keep it clean and dry during transit. This protects your investment from most types of usual delivery wear-and-tear. And before anything leaves our warehouse, we do a visual inspection to catch potential problems.

From “Order Placed” to “It’s Here!” (A Delivery Timeline)

How long it takes an artificial grass distributor to get your order to your chosen location is dependent on a few different necessary steps. It’s a pretty streamlined process without too many unexpected steps. But it’s worth understanding, even if only for your peace of mind.

Order Processing: This accounts for basically everything needed from when you agree to your purchase and when the truck drives off with your turf. During this time, the warehouse team is pulling your specific turf products from inventory, custom-cutting your rolls to the exact dimensions you ordered, double-checking everything for quality, and preparing it all for shipment.

Transit Time: Once your order ships, delivery times typically range from 3 to 10 business days. The average transit time is about 5 days; about 75% of deliveries have this timeline. And it’s mostly determined by the region the turf is being shipped to.

Delivery Timeframes by Region

Location Type Estimated Delivery Time
Same Region 3-5 business days
Cross-Country 7-10 business days
Remote/Rural Areas 8-12 business days
Alaska/Hawaii 10-15 business days

It’s worth noting that business days don’t include weekends or holidays. That trips people up sometimes. If you order on a Thursday and it ships Friday, Monday is day one of transit… not Saturday.

Scheduling Your Delivery: For residential addresses, the freight company will contact you 24-48 hours before delivery to schedule a delivery window. They’ll usually give you a 4-hour window, like 10 AM to 2 PM. Someone needs to be there to sign for the delivery and, more importantly, to unload it.

I had a guy in Austin, TX call me all stressed because he’d already booked his landscaper for the weekend and paid a deposit, but his turf was still in transit. He kept saying “I’m fixin’ to lose my deposit if this doesn’t show up!” We got it sorted, but man, that was a close one. Here’s my advice: don’t schedule your installer until you have the material in your hands.

Tracking: More than 80% of distributors provide tracking information, and we’re definitely in that 80%. So once your order ships, you’ll receive tracking details via email. Freight tracking isn’t quite as precise as tracking a FedEx package, but you’ll see status updates like “In Transit,” “At Terminal,” and “Out for Delivery.”

What If Your Turf Arrives and It’s Not What You Expected?

Damaged Deliveries: Approximately 60% of customers receive their artificial grass shipments without any damages. But if you receive damaged product, here’s what you need to do:

    1. Note it on the delivery receipt: Before the driver leaves, inspect your rolls. If you see any exterior damage, write it on the driver’s delivery receipt. Be specific.
    2. Take photos: Document everything. Get wide shots and close-ups of any damage.
    3. Call us immediately: We need to know about damage within 30-45 days, but the sooner the better.

Concealed Damage: This is damage you can’t see until you unroll the turf. Freight companies give you a very small window to report concealed damage—sometimes as little as 48 hours. This is why I always tell customers to unroll and inspect their turf as soon as it arrives.

Returns: Unfortunately, returns on custom-cut artificial grass are tricky. Once we’ve cut your turf to your specific dimensions, it’s pretty much yours becuase there’s virtually no chance that it’s resellable at all. That said, turf that arrives with a defect or damage, we’ll absolutely make it right. And similarly, if we shipped you the wrong product, that’s on us and we’ll fix it ASAP.

Buyer’s Remorse: Most artificial grass distributors charge a restocking fee (usually 15-25%) if you cancel or return an order that’s already been cut. The best way to avoid return issues? Measure carefully, order samples before committing to a large purchase, and ask smart turf questions before you buy.

You’ve Got Grass at Your Curb—Here’s What to Do Next

Standard artificial grass delivery is curbside, meaning the driver will use the lift gate to get your rolls off the truck and onto the ground. But that’s where their job ends. These rolls are heavy. Anywhere from 200 to 600 pounds depending on the size. But they’re also designed to roll.

I remember talking to this couple in Denver who were worried they couldn’t handle it themselves. She kept asking “Are you sure we don’t need to rent a Bobcat or something?” Her husband grabbed his buddy who works construction, and they had those rolls in the backyard before you could say “Go Broncos.” With two or three people, you can roll them across your lawn to wherever you need them. Just bring friends (bribe’em with pizza or something).

Installation Services: Many artificial grass distributors, including Artificial Turf Supply, can connect you with professional installers in your area. We’ve built relationships with thousands of installers across the country. Installation services can often be arranged through distributors, which is convenient because the installer already knows what product you’re getting.

DIY Installation: On the other hand, plenty of our customers install their own turf, and it’s doable if you’re pretty handy or experienced with turf. You’ll need some basic tools (utility knife, seaming tape, infill, a power broom). But please go into this decision with your eyes open. Properly laying synthetic turf is a big job. You need to know about preparing the base, considering proper drainage, a level surface, and a compacted base. And you need to be very careful with all of your seams and cuts. Warped, uneven, or lined turf is probably not the look you’re going for.

Things I Wish Every Customer Knew Before Ordering

The Artificial Turf Supply team gets to work with different customers all the time, but many of their questions or issues fall into a few specific categories. So here’s some advice we end up giving out pretty regularly.

Measure Twice, Order Once: I can’t stress this enough. Measure your space carefully, and then measure it again.

Consider Access: Before you order, walk around your property and think about how you’ll get the turf from the street to your installation area. These rolls don’t bend, so make sure you have a clear path.

Order Samples First: One of the first steps you should take is requesting samples. We offer free turf samples, so you can get a real sense of any given turf’s color and texture in your actual space. Colors look different in real life than they do on a screen, and you can only really get a feel for a texture by actually feeling it.

Have Help Ready: When that delivery day comes, make sure you’ve got at least one other person available to help you move the rolls.

Inspect Immediately: As soon as the truck leaves, unroll your turf and inspect it. The sooner you catch any problems, the easier they are to fix.
